Quiet, largely hands-off practices meant to help you rest and feel cared for. Gentle, unhurried, and asking almost nothing of you.
Some practices are less about doing and more about being received. Energy work is one of them.
Reiki and related practices are quiet sessions in which a practitioner rests their hands lightly on or just above the body while you lie still and rest. There is no manipulation of muscle and often little pressure at all. What people tend to describe afterward is a deep, unusual calm, and a feeling of having been tended to. We want to be plain about what this is: it is a restful, caring experience that many people value, offered as exactly that.
It tends to appeal when you are worn thin and want to be looked after without having to explain, perform, or work at anything. When touch-based bodywork feels like too much, but silence alone feels like too little. You do not need to believe anything in particular for the hour to feel restful. You only need to be willing to lie down and let someone hold a little space for you.
Tell us how you would like to feel, and we will suggest what might fit and make one thoughtful introduction.
Described honestly. Energy work is an experience of rest and care, not a treatment for any condition.
Many people find these sessions unusually restful, in the way a long, undisturbed pause can be. For some, it is the most settled they feel all week.
Part of what people value is simple and human: an unhurried hour in which someone attends only to you, and asks nothing back.
Because it is light or hands-off, energy work can be a comfortable way in for people who are not ready for hands-on bodywork.
Practitioners describe these in different ways. What they share is stillness and light or absent touch.
A practitioner rests their hands lightly on or just above the body in a series of positions while you rest. Quiet, still, and the most common form people mean by energy work.
Some practitioners work almost entirely above the body, with little or no contact. If touch is not what you want, this can be an easy fit.
Sessions that pair the stillness with gentle spoken guidance or breath, helping the mind settle alongside the body.
Some practitioners offer sessions remotely, guiding you to rest at home. Take it for what it plainly is: a quiet, guided hour of rest.
You will talk briefly about how you are and what you are hoping for. You stay fully clothed. The practitioner will explain where and how they will place their hands before they begin.
You lie down, and the practitioner rests their hands lightly on or above the body, moving slowly through positions. There is nothing to do. Many people relax completely, and some fall asleep.
People often feel calm, soft, and rested. Take a moment before standing, drink some water, and let yourself return to the day at an easy pace.
Stillwater would rather be honest than impressive.
We want to be straightforward about this one. Energy work has not been shown by scientific research to treat any medical condition, and there is no scientific evidence for the energy field that some practitioners describe. We are not going to tell you otherwise. What the research and countless people’s experience do support is simpler and still worth something: it is a safe practice that many find deeply restful and comforting. That is how we offer it. As an experience of rest and care, and not as a treatment.
Energy work is a way to rest and feel cared for, not a treatment for a medical condition. It does not replace care from a doctor or therapist. Reviews find no evidence of harm from these practices, but they should never take the place of medical care. If something in your body or mind needs attention, please also see a clinician.
In short: we offer energy work honestly, for the quiet, cared-for hour it reliably provides, and we make no claim beyond that.
