Practice Notes

A little from the people who teach.

Short answers from practitioners in the Stillwater network. One honest question, one honest reply.

The best thing we can offer before an introduction is a real voice. As practitioners join the network, we ask each one a single useful question, and their answer becomes a note like these. The examples below show the format while the network grows.

What is one thing people get wrong about breathwork?

That it has to be intense to work. A slightly longer exhale, done for three quiet minutes, does more for most people than an hour of dramatic breathing.

What does listening to the body actually mean?

It is not mystical. It is noticing the moment a movement turns from effort into strain, and stopping a little before that line. Most people can feel the difference the first time someone points it out.

What do you wish someone knew before their first session?

You do not need to be flexible or strong or experienced to start. The first session is mostly me watching how you move and breathe. Wear something you can move in, and eat something small an hour before, not right before.
